Role Purpose
The Data Platform Consultant configures and supports client data, analytics or catalogue platforms within approved architecture, security and operational controls. The role helps translate platform requirements into environments, access models, configurations, integrations, monitoring and deployment arrangements that are reliable, supportable and aligned with client delivery priorities. The consultant works with architects, engineers, security teams, infrastructure specialists, vendors and client administrators. It may perform authorised configuration and implementation activities, but client personnel retain production ownership, privileged authority and final change approval.
The role is expected to leave complete configuration records, support procedures, service evidence and knowledge transfer so the client can operate and govern the platform after the engagement.
- Assess platform requirements, existing environments, integrations, operating constraints, user groups and service expectations.
- Support platform selection and implementation planning through evidence-based functional and non-functional evaluation.
- Configure approved environments, work spaces, connections, roles, permissions and platform services.
- Implement integrations with source systems, identity services, catalogues, analytical tools or data pipelines as authorised.
- Apply security, privacy, classification, logging, encryption and privileged-access requirements.
- Establish monitoring, alerting, capacity, performance and service-level evidence for platform operation.
- Support backup, recovery, continuity and environment-restoration procedures relevant to the platform.
- Manage configuration records, versioning, release notes and controlled deployment through client change processes.
- Troubleshoot implementation defects, coordinate vendor support and document root causes and resolutions.
- Validate platform behaviour against approved requirements and support user or operational acceptance.
- Develop administration guides, runbooks, support models and escalation procedures.
- Train client administrators and users and complete a structured operational handover.
