Job DescriptionKey Responsibilities
- Monitor transmission network alarms through NMS/EMS tools on a 24x7 basis
- Identify network events, faults, service-impacting alarms, and performance degradation alerts
- Perform first-level alarm correlation and prioritization based on service impact
- Track node/link down events, path failures, LOS, LOF, interface flaps, power alarms, and transmission degradation alarms
- Raise incidents/tickets for all network alarms and customer-impacting events
- Categorize incidents based on severity, region, service, and technology
- Maintain proper updates in ticketing tools with time-stamped actions
- Ensure all incidents are acknowledged and assigned within defined SLA timelines
- Perform basic troubleshooting using SOPs, troubleshooting guides, and knowledge base
- Validate alarm persistence, flap behavior, repeat incidents, and service dependency
- Perform preliminary checks such as:
- Alarm acknowledgment
- Link/path status validation
- Interface and bandwidth checks
- Power/environment checks (where tool visibility exists)
- Reachability checks through monitoring systems
- Escalate unresolved or critical alarms to L2 / Shift Lead within defined TAT
- Coordinate with field teams, fiber teams, power teams, and OEM/vendor teams as per escalation matrix
- Follow escalation hierarchy for P1/P2 incidents without delay
- Inform customer support/service desk for affected services where required
- Provide timely updates to all stakeholders during incidents
- Maintain bridge call support for major outages if required
- Coordinate with internal teams for restoration activities
- Share handover notes clearly during shift change
- Ensure incidents are handled as per agreed SOP, SLA, and operational processes
- Maintain proper incident documentation and closure remarks
- Support shift governance, queue hygiene, and ageing control
- Adhere to reporting discipline and audit requirements
- Prepare shift-wise incident summaries and outage reports
- Maintain daily logs of major alarms, repeat faults, and pending issues
- Highlight chronic/repetitive issues to L2/team lead
- Support in MIS generation and service outage tracking
- Basic understanding of telecom transmission technologies:
- SDH
- DWDM
- Ethernet / MPLS Transport
- Fiber network basics
- Basic knowledge of alarm handling and NOC tools
- Understanding of incident management and escalation process
- Familiarity with EMS/NMS monitoring platforms
- Knowledge of transmission fault types such as:
- Link down / path down
- Interface down events
