Kal Soft is looking for an experienced Senior Oracle Solaris Engineer to operate, secure, and modernize Oracle Solaris and SPARC environments supporting critical government systems. The role covers day-to-day administration, patching, compliance, and leading upgrade or migration projects for environments approaching support deadlines.
Key Responsibilities- Administer Oracle Solaris 10, 11.3, and 11.4 environments, including SRU patching and lifecycle management.
- Manage SPARC infrastructure
, including T/M-series servers, Oracle VM Server for SPARC (LDoms), ILOM, and firmware. - Configure and support Solaris Zones, Kernel Zones, ZFS storage, SMF services, and IPS packaging
. - Operate high-availability clusters using Oracle Solaris Cluster or Veritas Info Scale and support Oracle Database workloads.
- Assess end-of-support exposure and lead upgrades to Solaris 11.4 or migrations to Oracle Linux / RHEL
. - Harden systems against the NIA Standard and client security baselines, and remediate audit and vulnerability findings.
- Automate routine operations using Shell, Python, and Ansible
, while maintaining runbooks and disaster recovery procedures. - Provide L3 incident and problem management
, including on-call support for critical systems.
- Minimum 5+ years of hands-on Solaris administration experience in production enterprise environments.
- Strong experience with SPARC hardware and virtualization (LDoms).
- Deep knowledge of ZFS, Zones, SMF, DTrace, and Solaris networking
. - Experience with clustering and disaster recovery for business-critical workloads.
- Proven experience delivering at least one Solaris upgrade or Solaris-to-Linux migration project
. - Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in enterprise production environments supporting critical systems.
- Oracle Certified Associate / Professional – Oracle Solaris certification.
- RHEL (RHCSA/RHCE) or Oracle Linux certification.
- Experience with Oracle Database on SPARC and Oracle Exadata/Super Cluster.
- Experience in telecom or banking back-office environments in the GCC
