Position: Head of Chartering (LNG/ LPG)

Our client is looking for a Head of Chartering to lead its chartering and commercial shipping activities, optimise fleet performance and develop new business opportunities.

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will oversee chartering and claims professionals, with responsibility for charter negotiations, commercial agreements and post-fixture activities. Working closely with fleet, legal and finance teams, you will help maximise vessel utilisation and earnings while building strong relationships with customers and commercial partners.

Key responsibilities
  • Develop and execute chartering strategies across owned, joint venture and chartered-in vessels.
  • Negotiate charter parties and other shipping agreements, overseeing contractual performance and commercial claims.
  • Identify and evaluate chartering opportunities, new markets and potential business partnerships.
  • Optimise fleet deployment, voyage costs and commercial returns in collaboration with operational teams.
  • Provide market intelligence, commercial analysis, budgets and performance reporting to support management decisions.
  • Lead and develop the team, ensuring effective coordination across chartering, commercial operations and post-fixture activities.
About you

You will bring a strong background in LNG/LPG shipping, combining chartering expertise with a thorough understanding of commercial operations and post-fixture management.

Our client is looking for:

  • Approximately 8-10 years' experience in oil and/or gas transportation, including 3-5 years in a comparable LNG/LPG chartering or commercial management role.
  • Strong knowledge of charter parties, shipping contracts and commercial claims.
  • A proven ability to negotiate agreements and build lasting relationships with shipowners, charterers and other market participants.
  • Sound commercial judgement, financial analysis skills and an understanding of shipping economics.
  • Experience leading people and working across operational and commercial functions.
  • A degree in a relevant maritime, engineering or business discipline.

This is an opportunity to take on a broad commercial leadership role, combining responsibility for existing shipping activities with the development of future opportunities.
