Technical Draftsman
Samples Yard is looking for an experienced Technical Draftsman with strong hands-on knowledge of carpentry, joinery, cabinetry, and interior fit-out works
.
This is not a purely architectural drafting position. We are looking for someone who understands how furniture, cabinets, wall cladding, doors, counters, vanities, wardrobes, and custom joinery are actually fabricated, assembled, and installed
.
The successful candidate will be responsible for converting design concepts, site conditions, and approved material selections into accurate, coordinated, fabrication-ready shop drawings that can be confidently used by the carpentry workshop, suppliers, and site installation teams.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare detailed shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and installation drawings for custom carpentry, cabinetry, joinery, and interior fit-out works.
- Develop detailed drawings for:
- Wardrobes and closets
- Kitchen cabinets
- TV units and feature walls
- Vanities
- Doors and frames
- Wall paneling and cladding
- Reception counters
- Shelving and storage units
- Built-in furniture
- Decorative joinery
- Custom loose furniture when required
- Produce accurate plans, elevations, sections, enlarged details, and construction details
. - Prepare drawings showing complete information for fabrication, including:
- Dimensions
- Material thicknesses
- Joinery details
- Edge details
- Hardware
- Hinges and drawer systems
- Internal cabinet configurations
- Fixing methods
- Structural supports
- Subframes
- Junctions between materials
- Translate architectural and interior design drawings into practical and buildable carpentry solutions
. - Review design drawings and identify technical issues before fabrication begins.
- Conduct site measurements and verify existing conditions before preparing final production drawings.
- Coordinate drawings with site conditions, ceilings, flooring, walls, electrical points, plumbing, lighting, AC, and other relevant services.
- Coordinate carpentry details with materials such as:
- Veneer
- Solid wood
- MDF
- Plywood
- Laminates
- Melamine
- Stone and marble
- Glass
- Metal
- Upholstery
- Decorative finishes
- Prepare accurate cutting dimensions and fabrication information for workshop teams.
- Coordinate closely with carpenters and workshop teams to ensure drawings reflect realistic production methods.
- Revise drawings based on site conditions, consultant comments, client approvals, and production requirements.
- Maintain proper drawing revisions and ensure the workshop and site teams are always working from the latest approved drawings.
- Cross-check drawings against BOQs, material schedules, specifications, and approved samples
. - Ensure item references and codes used in BOQs and material schedules are properly reflected in drawings.
- Flag discrepancies between design drawings, BOQs, specifications, and actual site conditions before production.
- Assist in preparing material take-offs and quantities when required.
- Support the estimation and procurement teams with technical information.
- Coordinate with suppliers regarding hardware, accessories, specialized fittings, and material limitations.
- Visit the workshop and site regularly to verify that production and installation comply with approved drawings.
- Support troubleshooting of technical issues arising during fabrication or installation.
Candidates must have strong demonstrated experience in carpentry and joinery detailing
.

- Cabinet carcass construction
- Shutters and drawer construction
- Concealed fixing methods
- Wall paneling systems
- Timber and metal substructures
- Hardware systems
- Hinges, runners, lift systems, and accessories
- Stone and glass integration with joinery
- Tolerances required for fabrication and installation
- Site measurement and setting-out
- Practical installation sequences
- Coordination between joinery and other fit-out trades
Experience working directly with a carpentry workshop or joinery factory is highly preferred

Strong proficiency in:
- AutoCAD – mandatory
- Sketch Up
- Microsoft Office
Experience with any of the following is an advantage:
- Revit
- Autodesk Inventor
- Solid Works
- Cabinet Vision
- Microvellum
- CNC-related production software
- 3D joinery detailing software
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Architectural Technology, Engineering, Drafting, or a related technical field.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant drafting experience
