Pediatric Nurse Job Summary The Pediatric Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive, family‑centered nursing care to infants, children, and adolescents with acute, chronic, and complex health conditions. The role involves assessing patient needs, planning and implementing nursing interventions, monitoring patient progress, educating patients and families, and collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure safe, effective, and high-quality care.
Key Responsibilities Clinical Care- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for pediatric patients in accordance with established standards and evidence‑based practices.
- Perform age‑appropriate physical assessments and monitor patients’ clinical status.
- Administer medications, intravenous therapies, vaccinations, and treatments as prescribed.
- Monitor and document vital signs, growth and development milestones, and patient responses to treatment.
- Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition and medical emergencies.
- Assist physicians during examinations, diagnostic procedures, and therapeutic interventions.
- Ensure safe medication administration and adherence to pediatric dosing protocols.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with children and their families.
- Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and caregivers.
- Educate parents and families regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, medications, nutrition, and home care requirements.
- Encourage family participation in care planning and decision‑making.
- Maintain a safe environment for pediatric patients and families.
- Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with patient safety goals, medication safety practices, and safeguarding requirements.
- Participate in quality improvement, risk management, and patient safety initiatives.
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, pharmacists, social workers, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals.
- Coordinate admissions, transfers, referrals, and discharge planning.
- Ensure continuity of care through effective communication and clinical handovers.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and complete patient records in the electronic medical record system.
- Document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and outcomes according to professional and organizational standards.
- Maintain competency in pediatric nursing skills and practices.
- Participate in continuing education, mandatory training, and professional development activities.
- Support orientation and mentorship of new nursing staff and students as appropriate.
- Participate in departmental meetings, audits, accreditation activities, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or equivalent recognized nursing qualification.
- Current Registered Nurse license in accordance with local regulatory requirements.
- Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required. - Pediatric Basic Life Support (PBLS) or equivalent – Preferred.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – Preferred/Required based on departmental requirements.
- Minimum 5 years of nursing experience, preferably in pediatric inpatient, outpatient, emergency, neonatal, or specialty pediatric settings.
