The Qatar Environment amp Energy Research Institute QEERI is seeking a highly motivated and impact-driven Research Scientist to join our multidisciplinary team tackling critical environmental challenges related to the impacts of atmospheric aerosols on climate in arid regions.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the data analysis and interpretation of existing datasets on aerosol and climate effects and exploit them to advance the understanding and impact of this topic in arid regions.
  • Design, execute, and lead field measurement campaigns characterising atmospheric aerosol properties including new particle formation events, size distributions, optical properties, and chemical composition.
  • Investigate aerosol cloud interactions and their radiative forcing implications in arid and semi-arid environments with a focus on the Arabian Peninsula.
  • Help integrate observational data with regional and global atmospheric models to quantify aerosol climate effects and improve predictive capabilities.
  • Publish high-quality peer-reviewed research in leading international journals and present findings at major scientific conferences.
  • Engage in capacity building and stakeholder impact including technical reporting and knowledge transfer to public institutions and policymakers.
  • Lead and contribute to competitive research funding applications at national and international levels.
  • Contribute to the mentorship and supervision of postgraduate students, research assistants, and early-career researchers.
Qualifications
  • PhD in relevant scientific or technical fields such as Atmospheric Science, Environmental, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Science, Physics, Chemistry or related areas.
  • Demonstrated expertise and research experience in related fields for a minimum of 3 years post PhD.
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools such as Python, R, MATLAB, IGOR Pro or equivalent platforms.
  • Experience in designing or conducting field measurements and troubleshooting of research-grade instruments.
  • Hands‑on experience with aerosol measurement instrumentation (e.g., SMPS, CCN, ACMS, nephelometer, aethalometer, and other related instruments).
  • Proven record of peer-reviewed publications and contributions to environmental research or applied health studies.
  • Ability to work independently and lead research activities within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset, including experience engaging with national stakeholders, regulators, or multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with or demonstrable understanding of atmospheric modelling frameworks.
  • Experience with science-policy interfaces, including developing technical inputs for environmental health guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to secure research funding, lead collaborative projects, and manage deliverables.
