Position: Care Navigator (Receptionist)

We have an exciting opportunity for the right person to join our amazing reception / care navigation team at Dunsville Medical Centre. This role is for a zero hours contract, there would be no contractual hours and staff would be offered shifts to cover absence as and when required with no obligation to work shifts that did not suit.

Main duties of the job

Our reception / care navigators take calls and online requests from patients. The patients are then directed to the most appropriate clinician or alternative service. They also deal with prescription requests and and other enquiries, both on the telephone and over the counter. We are looking for a staff member who has exceptional inter personal skills and is able to deal with challenging circumstances carmly and efficiently.

About us

Dunsville Medical centre is a well established GP practice in North East Doncaster. We have a stable patient base of around 7000. We have a very good relationship with our patients and the wider health community. We are open Monday to Friday and provide extended access to patients across our area on Saturdays.

Job Summary (Receptionist / Care Navigator)

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the reception and care navigation team at Dunsville Medical Centre, Doncaster, on a zero hours (as and when) basis. This flexible role is ideal for individuals who wish to work occasional shifts, supporting the practice during busy periods, sickness, annual leave or other staffing pressures.

You will provide face-to-face and telephone support to our patients, working alongside our friendly reception, administrative and clinical teams to ensure patients receive the best possible experience.

Main Duties of the Job

The primary responsibilities of this role include:

  • Providing care navigation, including assisting patients to access the most appropriate service.
  • Booking appointments, managing triage requests and guiding patients through practice processes.
  • Processing repeat prescription requests and handling general patient enquiries.
  • Carrying out general office and administrative duties, including filing, photocopying, scanning and dealing with incoming correspondence.
  • Supporting the wider reception and clinical team to ensure smooth day-to-day running of the practice.

This is a zero hours position, meaning shifts are offered based on practice need, and there is no obligation for either the practice or the postholder to commit to set weekly hours.

Person Specification Experience

  • Experience using computers and handling information accurately

  • Ability to stay calm, organised and polite under pressure
  • Good attention to detail, especially when handling patient information
  • Ability to work flexibly as part of a team, responding to changing workload and practice needs.

£12.65 an hour Potential for Saturdays at higher rate.
