Payroll Administrator (Maternity Cover - Fixed Term - 12 month contract)
People Services (HR & Payroll)
Full time – 35.5 hours per week
Salary: £24,826 - £25,511
We’re looking for a detail‑driven, proactive Payroll Administrator to join our People Services team and help ensure every colleague across the College Group is paid accurately, on time, and with great service.

What You’ll Be Doing- Processing monthly payroll accurately and to deadline
- Calculating payments and deductions such as overtime, allowances, SMP, SSP and salary variations
- Maintaining employee records, including bank changes, starters, leavers, and tax code updates
- Supporting colleagues across the College with payroll queries in a professional and customer‑focused way
- Producing accurate data, reports and management information when required
- Working closely with HR to ensure employee changes are processed efficiently
- Using HR/Payroll systems (including CHRIS) and Microsoft Office to manage data effectively
- Supporting process improvements, team projects, and continuous development of the service
- Carrying out general administrative duties including correspondence, filing and email management
- Strong administrative skills with excellent attention to detail
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Experience working in payroll and/or a busy administrative role
- Ability to organise workload, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
- Clear, confident written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues at all levels
- Experience using HR or payroll information systems
- GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent)
- Enthusiastic, positive and committed to delivering high‑quality work
- Can use your own initiative and stay calm under pressure
- Works well as part of a team and builds strong working relationships
