Job Description Estimator - Civil Engineering & Groundworks Yorkshire / Cheshire £45,000 - £75,000 + package I'm currently working with a well-established civil engineering and groundworks contractor who are looking to add an experienced Estimator to their team. The business has a strong track record delivering major civil engineering, earthworks, groundworks, remediation, drainage and infrastructure projects across Yorkshire and the wider North of England.
With a strong order book and continued growth across the region, this is a good opportunity for an Estimator who wants to join an established contractor where they can take genuine ownership of tenders and play an important part in securing new work.
- Reviewing incoming tender enquiries and establishing project requirements
- Preparing detailed estimates and tenders from first principles
- Pricing civil engineering, earthworks and groundworks packages
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, scopes and contract documentation
- Obtaining and analysing subcontractor and supplier quotations
- Producing accurate bills of quantities and tender breakdowns
- Carrying out take-offs and detailed measurement
- Identifying commercial risks and opportunities within tenders
- Attending site visits and tender meetings
- Liaising with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers
- Working closely with the operational team to ensure buildability and accurate pricing
- Supporting the handover of successful tenders to the commercial and delivery teams
- Managing multiple tenders and deadlines at any one time
- Proven experience as an Estimator within civil engineering, groundworks or infrastructure
- Experience pricing projects from first principles
- Strong understanding of earthworks, groundworks, drainage and civil engineering
- Experience with tendering and subcontractor procurement
- Good understanding of construction methods and buildability
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications
- Strong commercial awareness
- Good IT skills, particularly Excel and estimating software
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- A relevant construction or civil engineering qualification would be advantageous
- Full UK driving licence
