This post is to replace an existing Consultant post to support the Gastroenterology and Medical services within the Trust. The post will be based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary where you will participate in a 1 in 18 general medical and a 1 in 8 GI bleed on-call rota. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the delivery and development of Gastroenterology services across the trust.
On-call is classed as Category A and is a 1:7 Rota, which attracts a 3% on call availability supplement.
Main duties of the jobThe job plan for the post will be agreed following appointment, and a sample timetable is included below. We recognise that the work programme for any new Consultant taking up the post will take time to settle into before establishing a regular pattern of work and to satisfy changing clinical demand. Individual Job Plans are reviewed and agreed annually.
Key Duties of the Post- Strengthening the delivery of a high-quality Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Service across the hospital and community.
- Forging links between Gastroenterology and Acute Medicine for Acute Patients.
- Liaising and developing working policies with relevant hospital departments, local general practitioners, nurses and paramedical staff.
- Developing innovative practices in clinical patient management, focusing on high quality care and emphasis on community management where appropriate.
- Developing a subspeciality interest.
- Maintain close links with Gastroenterology colleagues including at the other two sites.
- Provide a 7‑day service with colleagues as resources allow.
- Teaching and training undergraduates as well as postgraduates.
- Quality Assurance of the service and individual practice.
- To share with colleagues the responsibility for teaching and training of trainees, resident medical staff, nursing staff, primary care colleagues and medical students.
- To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD).
