Purpose of the Role

To plan and deliver high-quality, inclusive teaching that meets the diverse needs of pupils with complex needs and challenging behaviours.

About

Since opening in 2013, OUR College has provided a safe, supportive environment for pupils aged 14-16 who have faced or are at risk of permanent exclusion due to challenging behaviours.

We specialise in re‑engaging students through a personalised curriculum that inspires and challenges, preparing them for success beyond school.

Our dedicated team offers a broad range of academic and vocational courses, empowering students to build confidence and achieve their full potential in a nurturing, friendly setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging, evidence‑informed lessons that meet the individual needs of pupils, including those with SEND and trauma histories.
  • Use assessment data to monitor pupil progress and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Promote pupils' social, emotional, and academic development through trauma‑informed and therapeutic approaches.
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour and learning, consistent with the school's behaviour policy and Staff Code of Conduct.
  • Collaborate with teaching assistants and specialist staff to provide effective support.
Requirements
  • Has experience teaching vocational subjects like hair & beauty
  • Proven experience teaching pupils with complex needs and challenging behaviour
  • QTS/QTLS
  • Strong understanding of curriculum, assessment, and behaviour management in special education settings.
  • Ability to plan, deliver, and assess effective teaching and learning
  • Commitment to professional conduct, safeguarding, and the Staff Code of Conduct.
  • Resilience, empathy, adaptability, and passion for supporting vulnerable pupils.
