Position: ALS Specialist Lecturer - (Part Time)

Overview

ALS Specialist Lecturer to join the Additional Learning Support team. Deliver high‑quality, individualised interventions that help learners with SEND to succeed across Further Education, Apprenticeships and Higher Education. Carry out Access Arrangements Assessments, undertake screenings for Specific Learning Difficulties, and work closely with curriculum areas, workplaces and external partners to ensure learners have the right support in place. Be a visible champion for inclusive practice across the college.

  • Vacancy 1:
    Part Time / Fixed Term up to 12 months (Maternity Cover) – 3 days per week (22.5 hours) or 21.5 hours per week. Actual Salary: 22.5 hours £21,414.30 – £27,105.21 per annum; 21.5 hours £20,462.55 – £25,900.54 per annum.
  • Vacancy 2:
    Part Time – 2.5 days per week / 18.75 hours per week. Actual Salary: £17,893.31 – £22,587.68 per annum.
Key Responsibilities
  • Teach personalised ALS interventions across FE and apprenticeship programmes, assessing learners as required.
  • Complete Access Arrangements Assessments for examinations and advise on reasonable adjustments.
  • Undertake SpLD screenings for HE students and provide interim support.
  • Contribute to identification, planning, support and progression for learners with SEND, including those with EHCPs.
  • Liaise with curriculum teams and employers to develop effective support plans and exam arrangements.
  • Champion an inclusive culture and foster links with external bodies to enhance provision.
  • Maintain accurate records to meet funding and audit requirements.
Essential Criteria
  • A degree in a relevant field (English & Maths, ESOL, Psychology, Education, etc.).
  • A recognised Teaching Qualification is desirable but not essential – applicants must be willing to work towards this.
  • A Level 7 qualification in assessing for access arrangements (e.g. CPT3A or equivalent) or willingness to work towards achieving this.
  • Experience supporting learners with dyslexia, literacy, numeracy, and language needs in FE and/or HE settings.
  • A strong understanding of specific learning difficulties and educational needs, and their impact on learning and progression.
  • Experience using innovative and inclusive teaching strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work flexibly across teams and settings.
