The Learning Mentor will lead support for pupils who need particular help to overcome barriers to learning, engaging families and providing one‑to‑one mentoring and pastoral support.
Key Responsibilities- Lead within the school to address the needs of pupils who need help to overcome barriers to learning.
- Engage the hardest‑to‑reach families, providing information about services, family learning and parenting, and preventive 1:1 support work.
- Provide pastoral support to pupils.
- Develop 1:1 mentoring arrangements and support distressed pupils.
- Work with other staff in planning, evaluating and adjusting learning activities where behaviour or social/emotional difficulties are present.
- Provide information and advice to enable pupils to make choices about their learning, behaviour and attendance.
- Challenge and motivate pupils, promote and reinforce self‑esteem.
- Give feedback to pupils on progress, achievement, behaviour and attendance.
- Establish productive working relationships with pupils and parents, acting as a role model.
- Serve on the safeguarding team and be a Designated Safeguarding Lead.
- Support the SLT and Admin Team with attendance paperwork.
- Commitment to CPD, new role support or ongoing development.
- Supportive and forward‑thinking Leadership Team and Academy Council.
- Good induction, professional development and opportunities to work with colleagues across the BKCAT.
- Commitment to supporting the Catholic ethos of the school.
- Good references and an enhanced DBS check.
- Willingness to participate in the life of the school and actively support its distinctive Catholic ethos.
