We are seeking an exceptional Pastoral Leader to join our dedicated pastoral team on a one-year fixed-term maternity cover contract. This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced and passionate professional to play a key role in shaping the educational experience, wellbeing and personal development of a year group.

As Pastoral Leader, you will be the driving force behind student success, promoting excellent behaviour, strong attendance and a culture of achievement. You will work closely with senior leaders, teaching staff, families and external agencies to remove barriers to learning and ensure every student is supported to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and support a designated year group, acting as a visible and positive role model for students.
  • Promote high standards of behaviour, attendance and punctuality through effective monitoring and intervention.
  • Build positive relationships with students, encouraging personal growth, resilience and ambition.
  • Work collaboratively with the Designated Safeguarding Lead, SENDCo, teaching staff and external professionals to support vulnerable students.
  • Identify barriers to learning and implement targeted strategies to improve student outcomes.
  • Develop strong partnerships with parents and carers to ensure students receive consistent support.
  • Monitor student wellbeing, behaviour and attendance data, taking proactive action where required.k
  • Lead and support tutor teams to ensure a consistent and effective pastoral experience.
  • Coordinate and promote rewards, celebrations and enrichment opportunities that recognise student achievements.
  • Support students who may be underachieving, providing mentoring and guidance to help them succeed.
  • Contribute to safeguarding, student welfare and the overall positive culture of the academy.
What We’re Looking For
  • Proven experience working with secondary-aged students, particularly within a pastoral, behaviour, attendance or student support role.
  • A commitment to inclusion, equity and supporting every student to achieve success.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families and colleagues.
  • Resilience, emotional maturity and the confidence to manage challenging situations calmly and professionally.
  • Strong organisational skills, with experience of monitoring data, managing interventions and coordinating support plans.
  • The ability to work collaboratively across teams and communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • A genuine passion for improving life chances and supporting students to overcome barriers to learning.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
