As a Teaching Assistant
, you ll work alongside teachers and pastoral staff to provide tailored classroom support for students who need additional guidance. You ll play a key role in helping pupils engage with learning, develop positive relationships, and reach both their academic and personal goals.
This Secondary Teaching Assistant role offers a varied and rewarding working environment where every day brings the opportunity to positively influence students lives.
Responsibilities- Provide one-to-one and small group support across a range of subjects.
- Support students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, and learning difficulties.
- Assist teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons.
- Encourage positive behaviour, classroom engagement, and participation.
- Help students develop confidence, independence, resilience, and social skills.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to implement individual support strategies.
- Support pupils both inside and outside the classroom when required.
- Build positive relationships that enable students to thrive academically and emotionally.
- Experience working with young people in education, schools, childcare, coaching, youth work, care, or similar settings.
- Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant
, Learning Support Assistant, Classroom Assistant, or SEND Support Worker is desirable but not essential. - A patient, caring, and resilient approach.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Confidence supporting students with additional learning or behavioural needs.
- A genuine passion for education and helping young people succeed.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
Experience supporting students with:
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- ADHD
- SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs)
- Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
- Speech and Language Needs
- Behaviour Support Strategies
- SEND in mainstream secondary schools
