About the role

We are seeking dedicated and resilient Behaviour Teaching Assistants to join a newly established Alternative Provision within a secondary school in Doncaster. This full-time position is available from September 2026 on a temp-to-perm basis, offering long-term employment for successful candidates. You will play a key role in supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour, helping them access education in a nurturing and structured environment.

The school is committed to inclusion, high aspirations and providing positive outcomes for all students through a supportive and student-centred approach.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide targeted support to pupils with SEMH needs and behavioural challenges within the Alternative Provision setting.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students to promote engagement, attendance and learning.
  • Implement behaviour support strategies and individual intervention plans in line with school policies.
  • Support students both in the classroom and during intervention sessions to encourage academic and personal development.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams and external agencies to meet students’ individual needs.

Pre-requisites

  • Relevant qualifications in Education, Childcare, Youth Work, Psychology or a related field.
  • Proven experience of supporting children or young people with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour.
  • Strong knowledge of behaviour management strategies and safeguarding practices.
  • Two education or school-based references.
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach with the ability to build positive relationships with vulnerable learners.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
