Description and requirements

What do you want from your work? From your life?
If you’re looking for more than just a job, if you want to make a real difference with every decision you make, you’re in the right place.

Skanska is one of the largest construction and development companies in the world. Together, we shape how we live, work and connect – we build from the ground up and maintain your local communities, infrastructure and transportation.

We’re excited to open applications for our 2026 Apprenticeship Programme, starting in September. This is your opportunity to build a meaningful career where your work contributes to healthier, greener, and more inclusive places for people to thrive.

Our apprenticeship programme is a great opportunity to study towards a college or university qualification while putting everything you have learnt into action through on-the-job training. You will have the support of mentors who care about your growth, and you will establish a career where you will develop the technical and interpersonal skills to help you succeed and make a lasting impact.

As a Degree Apprentice Civil Engineer within our Cementation operating unit, you’ll experience the full life cycle of piling and foundation projects through a rotational programme - from tendering to site delivery. You’ll develop your geotechnical and civil engineering skills with our nationwide piling and ground engineering teams.

Join us to shape the future through safe, sustainable, and collaborative project delivery

What you'll do:

  • Develop knowledge and understanding of Geotechnical Design processes
  • Conduct engineering measurements, checks, inspections and tests to ensure quality compliance
  • Contribute to documenting plans, programmes, method statements and risk assessments
  • Use digital solutions to solve technical problems
  • Develop practical understanding of the importance of health and safety and the environmental requirements involved in civil engineering
  • Understand and apply industry specifications, codes, standards and guidance
  • Participate in site inductions, morning briefings & toolbox talks
  • Interpret and analyse information including analysis of data, producing models, calculations, reports and drawings
  • Identify and manage risk both in a project setting and during the design process
  • Contribute to sustainable engineering solutions

What you'll bring to the role:

  • 3 A-levels at Grade A - C, including Maths and a Physical Science, BTEC Extended National Diploma or equivalent level 3 qualification.
  • 5 GCSEs at Grades 4-9 including Maths, English and Science or their equivalent for us to successfully enrol you on the apprenticeship
  • You will need to be comfortable with Maths and Physics as engineering is built on these fundamental skills
  • Thrive in a collaborative environment where your contributions are valued and celebrated
  • Dependable team player who actively supports and promotes collective success
  • Inquisitive and driven by a passion to grow and innovate
  • You must have lived in the UK in the last 3 years and have the right to work in the UK to be eligible for an apprenticeship. We are not able to proceed with applications that require visa sponsorship.
  • We are not able to proceed with applications from candidates that have already achieved a degree in a similar discipline.
  • This role requires visits to sites across the UK. As such, we would desire for the successful candidate to have a driving licence or work towards obtaining one within their first year of working with us

What qualification will you be studying towards?

You will also work towards the Incorporated Civil Engineer (IEng MICE) professional qualification with the support of Skanska’s ICE accredited Training Agreement. You will gain varied experience as part of a structured rotational raining programme, throughout which you will be offered the support of experienced colleagues and mentors.

What we offer:

  • You will join a community of 100+ graduates and apprentices, with opportunities to build networks and collaborate across the business
