This permanent role (Band
3) is based primarily at Doncaster Hospital, with occasional work at Bassetlaw and Mexborough. It is available full-time or part-time, and preference will be discussed at interview.
The position supports the Ophthalmology teams to ensure the smooth running of the offices. The post holder will work as part of a Medical Secretary team to provide effective and efficient support to clinical teams, maintaining robust systems for administrative management of patient pathways.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will be responsible for checking, monitoring and progressing all aspects of the patient pathway in line with clinical instruction, and in accordance with national and local waiting times. They will liaise directly with the consultant and delegated members of the consultant team, use information reports to assist, and apply expert knowledge of patient pathways, including the 18‑week Referral to Treatment (RTT) rules.
They will promote best practice amongst peers, offer guidance for clinical teams, and work closely with other members of the clinical admin teams, Team Leaders and the Data Quality Team to ensure consistent approaches to RTT validation. The role requires skills in all areas of administrative functions, using Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure that functions of the role are carried out correctly and consistently within given timescales.

- Minimum of 3 GCSEs including English and Maths at Grade C or above or suitable equivalent qualification
- Business Administration Level II Apprenticeship
- Previous experience working in a clerical/administrative role
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Experience of working within a busy/demanding environment, e.g., multi-disciplinary team
- Demonstrable working knowledge of Microsoft packages including Word
- Knowledge of Referral to Treatment Patient Access Policies and Procedures
- Understanding of patient priorities and targets in relation to appointments and waiting times, specifically Referral to Treatment
- Ability to deal calmly and diplomatically with a range of personalities and situations
- Proactive, self‑motivated with a positive approach to work
- Team player with a professional approach to work and colleagues; able to develop good working relationships

Salary£25,760 to £27,476 a year (Pro Rata Per Annum)
