Come and help us change lives. This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy, friendly and high-performing Area Executive Director (AED) team, helping to influence decisions, support staff and improve outcomes across prisons and probation. Working at the heart of the North East, Yorkshire and the Humber Area, you will play a key role in ensuring leaders are equipped with the information, insight and communications they need to drive performance and deliver change .

The role sits within the AED’s Office and works across a complex operational landscape of 11 prisons, 18 Probation Delivery Units , a national service for operational policy , regional structures and multidisciplinary colleagues . Collaborating with senior leaders and partners , we seek to improve outcomes in reoffending and public protection by testing new approaches, spreading good practice across the Area, changing behaviour,influencing central support and decisions, amplifying partnership work between prisons and probation and with partners in all sectors, breaking down barriers to progress and driving performance improvements.

With more than 8,000 staff across the region, effective communication is critical to engaging colleagues, amplifying their voice and helping them understand and contribute to delivery priorities in a fast-changing environment. Reporting to the AED’s Head of Office, you will provide expert communications advice, lead the design and delivery of internal communications activity, and work closely with prison and probation colleagues .

You will help shape and deliver communications that support strategic priorities, share innovation and best practice, strengthen partnerships and ensure consistent messaging across the Area.

We are looking for a proactive, collaborative and creative communicator who can build strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, influence at all levels and translate strategic objectives into impactful communications.

The post is based within North East, Yorkshire and the Humber, with regular travel to operational sites across the Area. Occasional travel to London and other locations for meetings will also be required.

The MoJ offers Hybrid Working arrangements where business need allows. This is an informal, non-contractual form of flexible working that blends working from your base location, different MoJ sites and / or from home (please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas). Some roles will not be suitable for Hybrid Working.

Similarly, Hybrid Working will not suit everyone’s circumstances. Arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) and subject to regular review.

For nationally advertised roles, the successful candidate(s) will be appointed to aMoJoffice location, which may include their nearest Justice Collaboration Centre or Justice Satellite Office. This will be discussed and agreed on the completion of pre-employment checks.
