Head and Neck Clinical Nurse Specialist

This is a Trust wide specialist nurse role, working with the lead head and neck clinical nurse specialist post holder to assist with the continued development and delivery of head and neck oncology services.
The post holder will work as an expert nurse providing consultation advise and support to patients and their families with suspected and diagnosed head and neck cancers that are referred to the services.
Education of health care professionals across the community, utilisation of knowledge and clinical skills to lead nursing care for patients with head and neck cancers.
Main duties of the jobProfessional
- Identification of specific care needs of patients with head and neck cancer and their families, ensuring that their quality of care is of a high standard and that effective communication, information, support and counselling is offered throughout their illness.
- Provision of clinical excellence through practice in the head and neck cancer service providing the highest possible standard of care to patients and families using the service.
- To be available as a primary resource and nursing link throughout the patient's cancer journey from as early as possible in the disease process, particularly at diagnosis.
- Possess and exercise relevant expertise and knowledge related to possible investigations and treatment options in order to provide cancer patients with necessary information to maximise informed consent.
- Support of patients by being a point of contact for queries and working in close liaison with primary care teams.
- Assist the Lead Head and Neck Clinical Nurse Specialist in reviewing current clinical guidelines and formulating new guidelines to ensure evidence based practice.
- Maintain accurate patient records thus ensuring a high level of patient care, appropriate communication and follow up.
- The post holder will be a member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team and will be actively involved in meetings relating to head and neck cancer patients.

Person Specification Qualifications & Training- First level Registered Nurse - current NMC registration.
- Up to date knowledge of professional issues
- Degree or study related to specialty /role at level 6
- Non-medical prescribing Teaching
- Able to accommodate the demands of the post with flexible working as required and good attendance.
- Compassionate, demonstrating patient centred approach to care.
- Ability to deal with highly distressing or emotional circumstances
- Relevant post registration experience at Band 5 or above
- Highly specialist knowledge underpinned by theory and experience
- ENT/Maxillofacial experience
