You must be able to demonstrate excellent leadership skills, be a caring and compassionate individual focused on providing excellent quality patient care, and work within the values held by the Trust.

The post holder will work to support when caring for women in labour, including the implementation of “effective fetal monitoring in labour” of the saving babies lives version 3 care bundle 2023.

The post holder will lead and support staff to develop their fetal monitoring skills when caring for women in labour, including intermittent and continuous fetal monitoring.

The aim of this role is to build on, embed current practice, upskill, and support staff members.

To facilitate this, the role is Monday to Friday within core hours (8am–5pm). This may vary, and be subject to review, depending on the specialty service needs.

This is a full time, 37.5 hour working week.

  • Ensure staff are assessing fetal wellbeing in the context of the woman’s health, pregnancy, gestation and stage of labour.
  • Develop midwives’ competence in undertaking intelligent intermittent auscultation of fetal heart in low-risk women as per trust and NICE guidelines.
  • Take the lead in supporting the development of a safety culture within the context of resource constraints and multiple conflicting priorities.
  • Audit the compliance for the hourly review of fetal wellbeing in labour, assessment of risk factors and processes/escalate concerns.
  • To support staff in developing and continuously improving skills in relation to fetal monitoring.
  • Monitoring compliance with annual CTG compliance and intermittent auscultation training for all midwifery and obstetric staff.
  • Educate, facilitate and design a teaching programme with teaching materials with an innovative approach.
