Apprentice Arborist – 2 posts (CDC) (Temporary fixed term, 24 months)
Location:
North Bridge Depot, Doncaster
Salary: £8.00 per hour (£15,434.27 per annum from 1 st April 2026). For the first year of the apprenticeship you will earn the specified hourly rate; thereafter the National Minimum Wage appropriate to age applies.

Job DescriptionYou will work as part of the arboricultural team to keep Doncaster clean, green and safe for residents and visitors.
The apprenticeship is 24 months long and includes college attendance in block‑release weeks – one week every eight weeks at Askham Bryan College’s York campus.
During the apprenticeship you will acquire practical and theoretical knowledge in arboriculture, tree care and management, forestry, and woodland care. Key activities include:
- Use and maintenance of chainsaws and wood chippers
- Felling and processing of trees up to 380 mm in diameter
- Tree access using rope, harness and aerial rescue techniques
- First aid at work and emergency response training
- Studying tree identification, pest and disease management, and tree‑related legislation
On successful completion you will progress to the End Point Assessment Gateway for an industry‑recognised Level 2 Arborist Apprenticeship.
The role is physically demanding and performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
About YouYou must be 16 years or older, left full‑time education at the start of the course, and have no prior experience required. Desired attributes:

- Physical fitness and ability to perform demanding tasks
You will attend Askham Bryan College, York for block‑release tuition. The Council will pay for accommodation and provides a daily bus service from Doncaster bus station.
