Hours:

Full time 37 hours per week. We are happy to consider various working patterns to accommodate study and other commitments, including working part-time over a longer period. This will be discussed on appointment.

We are recruiting two short-term interns (for 8 weeks each) as part of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) at City of Doncaster Council in partnership with the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University.

• The HDRC Evaluation Intern will report to the HDRC Project Manager, work with a live Public Health project dataset, collating, organising and analysing the information to develop insight from numerical data. The intern will have the opportunity to develop skills in the interpretation and presentation of data. Previous experience with data management, database and/or Microsoft Excel/statistical software would be an advantage.
• The HDRC Community Engagement Intern will report to the HDRC Research Priorities Lead and will support work to ensure research is informed by the needs of local communities. The role will involve engaging with residents and stakeholders, attending community events to gather insights and promote involvement in co‑produced research. The intern will design and deliver a small‑scale engagement project focused on a community, analyse findings, and share results.

What you will bring to the role:
Transferable skills from other roles or voluntary work are welcome. Some prior understanding of the impact of the wider determinants of health on the health of individuals and populations, and of research processes, would be an advantage for both positions. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential. You should be able to independently plan and deliver work, asking for help when needed.

You will work with colleagues in the HDRC, the Public Health Team, across the Council and other stakeholders within a supportive, flexible and friendly environment. Due to the unique nature of these roles, we can offer a range of working patterns to support successful applicants to complete the internships while maintaining their studies. This may include funding for travel and accommodation for any time spent on site in Doncaster.
