The Work You Will Do

Senior Equipment Operator / District 6 / North Dade Maintenance. Operates vehicles and a variety of large equipment including road graders, sewer cleaner and hydraulic excavators in bridge and roadway maintenance. Performs minor maintenance and servicing, including checking/adding fluids, brakes, tire air pressure, etc. Assists in the repair of operating equipment. Cleans and washes equipment.

Pay Range

Bi-weekly: $1,703.04 - $2,203.94;
Annual: $44,279.13 - $57,302.41. A Competitive Area Differential (CAD) additive of $1,976 will be added to the annual salary.

Your Specific Responsibilities

Operate vehicles and a variety of large equipment (road graders, sewer cleaner, hydraulic excavators) in bridge and roadway maintenance. Perform minor maintenance and servicing (checking/adding fluids, adjusting brakes, tire pressure, etc.). Assist in equipment repair and cleaning. Supervise Department of Corrections inmate crews performing maintenance activities (optional) and oversee crews (optional if overseeing contracted employees). Coordinate, participate, and direct maintenance activity of the assigned crew.

Assist in selecting materials, supplies, equipment, inspecting, planning workloads, workflows, deadlines, and time utilization with employees. Maintain operation records and daily paperwork (crew activity reports, daily vehicle checklists). Perform independent manual labor related to assignments. Perform Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic). Perform rough carpentry, masonry, painting, and assist with highway sign assembly/erection. Train crew members in heavy equipment operation and in Temporary Traffic Control.

Assist with crew activity reports as needed.

The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Mathematical calculations.
  • Standard safety rules and procedures.
  • Maintenance and repair procedures, techniques and use of equipment for highways, bridges and highway structures.

Skills in:

  • Operating a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Operating and performing minor maintenance on large equipment and vehicles.
  • Completing job-related reports and forms.
  • Communicating verbally and in writing, including following instructions.

Ability to:

  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment.
  • Train others.
  • Read and understand job-related materials.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Lift, carry, and handle up to 50 pounds.
  • Stoop, climb, squat, push, pull, crawl or bend regularly.
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions, terrains and heights or in high traffic.
  • Stand for extended periods.
Other Job-Related Requirements

Must respond to emergencies and be on-call (24-hour duty) when necessary. Must be readily available to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) consistent with the CDL requirements. A valid Class A CDL is required. Certification in Temporary Traffic Control - Intermediate Level within one year and ongoing maintenance. May work with Department of Corrections inmates.

During an emergency, you may be required to assist the district as needed.
