City Manager

Doraville, United States | Posted on 10/24/2025

Sumter Local Government Consulting is assisting the City of Doraville, Georgia to recruit for a new City Manager. Doraville is a city with deep roots and bold ambitions. Located just northeast of Atlanta, Doraville has evolved from a quiet railroad town into a culturally diverse and economically promising community in the region. With a population of approximately 11,000 residents, Doraville is known for its rich multicultural character, strategic location, and transformative redevelopment efforts.

Doraville, Georgia, stands at a transformative crossroads. Once known primarily as a quiet suburb, the city is now emerging as a regional hub for innovation, redevelopment, and cultural vibrancy. The next City Manager will play a pivotal role in guiding Doraville through this evolution—strategically driving multiple projects and initiatives to realize the Mayor and Council’s vision.

The City Manager, appointed by the Mayor and Council, serves as the chief executive officer of the city. This role includes managing municipal departments, preparing and administering the budget, implementing council directives, and ensuring the efficient delivery of public services. The City Manager also acts as a liaison between elected officials and city staff, fostering collaboration and transparency throughout the organization.

With a rich history, a vibrant multicultural population, and multiple major projects underway, Doraville offers a unique opportunity for a strategic leader to build on the City’s momentum and implement the City Council’s vision for the community's future. The opportunity will span multiple projects and initiatives with a long-term impact on the future success of Doraville and the entire metro area.

This role demands someone who can lead multimillion-dollar infrastructure and redevelopment projects, negotiate favorable agreements, and oversee grant processes. In addition to the City Center project, the City Manager must represent the City’s interests through sophisticated finance arrangements involving state and local governments, authorities, and taxing districts. This new leader in Doraville must also ensure that the City is actively and effectively communicating with the unique mix of residents and community stakeholders.

  • The hiring range for this position is from $175,000 - $200,000

The job description can be accessed at the link below.

Qualifications
  • Experience managing major capital projects involving coordination with architects, contractors, and community stakeholders
  • Extensive experience in municipal government, preferably within a council-manager form of government
  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, political science, urban planning, or a related field; a master’s degree is strongly preferred.
  • Proven leadership in managing city operations, including budgeting, strategic planning, and departmental oversight.
  • Strong understanding of public safety coordination, including direct oversight of a municipal police department and collaboration with county-level fire services.
  • Demonstrated success in economic development, infrastructure planning, and community engagement.
