Overview

The Production Lead is responsible for coordinating daily production activities, supporting operators, and ensuring that products are manufactured safely, efficiently, and in accordance with quality standards. This role serves as a key liaison between Production, Quality, and Operations Leadership by proactively addressing issues, maintaining documentation accuracy, and driving consistency across shifts. The Production Lead also supports training, continuous improvement, and inventory accuracy to ensure optimal performance and minimal non‑conforming material.

Responsibilities

Safety:
  • Ensure all team members wear the required PPE at the start of the shift and throughout all production activities.
  • Conduct daily safety walks and immediately report any unsafe conditions or behaviors to management.
  • Promote a safety‑first culture and ensure compliance with all safety procedures and policies.
Housekeeping:
  • Ensure the production floor, workstations, and offline areas remain clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Confirm all trash and debris are removed before the end of the shift.
  • Maintain 5S principles to support efficiency and workplace safety.
Production Operations:
  • Coordinate daily production work to meet established goals and maintain at least 90% on‑time production delivery.
  • Report shift performance, issues, or downtime events promptly in the production chat and to management.
  • Ensure all production sheets are completed accurately, legibly, and submitted before leaving.
  • Verify that the production board is updated at the end of each shift.
  • Assist in troubleshooting equipment or process issues and elevate concerns as needed.
Quality Control:
  • Ensure all products meet quality specifications and in‑process checks are performed correctly.
  • Immediately address quality deviations with operators and notify management and/or Quality.
  • Document quality issues in the production chat and support corrective actions to achieve a 1st Pass Yield of 95% or greater.
  • Support consistent application of procedures and quality standards across shifts.
Team Leadership & Training:
  • Provide daily guidance, support, and direction to Production Operators.
  • Train new team members thoroughly to ensure they understand procedures, job expectations, and quality standards.
  • Encourage operator participation in improving processes and identifying recurring issues.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative environment focused on consistency and continuous improvement.
Communication and Reporting:
  • Maintain clear communication with the incoming and outgoing shifts to ensure alignment on priorities, issues, and changes.
  • Elevate concerns to leadership promptly and provide accurate shift updates to the Production Supervisor.
  • Ensure consistent expectations and process adherence across all shifts.
  • Use communication channels such as phone call, text message, and Microsoft Teams.
Procedural Creation and Compliance:
  • Ensure production employees follow all work instructions, SOPs, and ISO 9001 documentation requirements.
  • Identify documentation gaps and support creation or revision of procedures in partnership with Operations or Quality.
  • Ensure procedural updates are clearly communicated, implemented, and understood across all shifts.
Inventory Accuracy:
  • Ensure all finished goods are properly labeled, binned, and scanned into the system before end of shift.
  • Verify that all pulled items, materials used, and transactions are accurately entered into the system.
  • Report discrepancies to management and assist in root‑cause analysis for inventory errors.
Continuous Improvement and Problem Solving:
  • Participate in investigations of production or quality issues affecting an entire run and assist with corrective and preventive actions.
  • Recommend process improvements to increase throughput, reduce waste, and enhance operator effectiveness.
  • Support integration of new products, processes, or equipment into production.
