Business Manager - Operations

We are looking for a motivated and highly organised Business Manager to join our Operational Support Directorate, playing a key role in the delivery and continuous improvement of outpatient clinic management. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of a busy and dynamic service. You will work closely with clinical, operational and administrative colleagues, supporting service performance and responding to day‑to‑day challenges.

As a Business Manager, you will combine operational coordination with team leadership, taking responsibility for managing administrative teams and overseeing clinic processes. You will have the opportunity to use your analytical and problem‑solving skills to improve services, and contribute to service development.

Main duties of the job
  • Support outpatient nursing in the coordination of the day‑to‑day running of outpatient clinics, ensuring they run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Provide expert support to service management teams in setting up outpatient clinics, including room/nursing availability and PAS clinic management.
  • Manage clinic capacity in PAS, including clinic creation, rebooking and cancellations.
  • Work closely with clinical teams to respond to service pressures and support delivery of performance targets.
  • Be involved in improving processes and implementing new ways of working.
  • Support the development of standard operating procedures.
  • Provide line management to administrative staff, including supervision, appraisals and day‑to‑day support.
  • Help develop a positive team culture, supporting staff wellbeing and development.
  • Allocate and prioritise workload to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Monitor service performance and data quality to support operational decision‑making.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and patient experience.
  • Support reporting and use of digital systems such as Bookwise, PAS and NHS eRS.
  • Build strong working relationships with clinical, operational and administrative colleagues.
  • Communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including patients.
  • Work flexibly to support service needs.
  • Oversee administrative processes for clinic management, including clinic creation, cancellations, rebooking and capacity management.
  • Oversee outpatient room scheduling and nursing rosters.
  • Support the Outpatient senior nursing team within agreed criteria.
  • Contribute to service planning, business case development and service improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in supervising, implementing and troubleshooting administration related digital systems (e.g. voice recognition and electronic vetting).
  • Understand Access Digital systems to support the Service Delivery Manager and Service Improvement Manager (e.g. NHS eRS, Attend Anywhere, DrDoctor).
  • Provide assistance to other colleagues during busy periods, annual leave or sickness, and undertake any other duties as requested by the line manager.
Person Specification Education
  • Essential:
    Educated to degree level or equivalent, or demonstrable equivalent experience, skill and knowledge.
Desirable
  • 4 GCSEs grade C/4 or equivalent to include Maths & English.
Experience
  • Essential:
    Significant recent experience of working at a similar level within a health care setting.
  • Experience of working autonomously.
  • Significant experience of working with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Significant and considerable experience in administration/business management.
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience of supervision/line management.
Desirable
  • Recent experience of working with the Trust’s internal systems.
Skills
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage a complex workload independently.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, working effectively across multidisciplinary teams and engaging a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to meet competing deadlines while maintaining quality and managing changing priorities.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail, with responsibility for managing ad hoc and complex demands.
