Applications are invited for an innovative post of Clinical Fellow in Dermatopathology within the Histopathology Department at Dorset County Hospital Foundation Trust in Dorchester. The post will be complemented by separate additional sessions at the nearby private laboratory Poundbury Cancer Institute, which requires a separate employment contract but no separate interview or application.

The post is aimed at doctors who have completed, or are within six months of completing, training in Dermatology or General Histopathology. It will enable the successful candidate to develop a subspecialist interest in Dermatopathology and work towards the Royal College of Pathologists Diploma in Dermatopathology.

Role Overview

This is a training post within the Department of Histopathology at Dorset County Hospital, fully supervised by Dr Taibjee. The Clinical Fellow will support the Skin Histopathology service, preview cases, draft reports, and finalize and authorize reports with consultants. Exposure to complex cases, second opinions, and an extensive slide archive is provided. The post is a 5PA contract.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Full GMC registration.
  • Consultant Dermatologist or Histopathologist, or with equivalent overseas training.
  • Within six months of completing CCT.
  • Interest in developing a specialist interest in Dermatopathology and pursuing the Royal College of Pathologists Diploma.
Key Responsibilities
  • Preview cases and draft skin histology reports.
  • Work with Dr Taibjee and other consultants to finalize and authorize reports.
  • Assist biomedical scientists in macroscopic dissection of skin specimens.
  • Order appropriate ancillary tests such as immunohistochemistry and molecular tests.
  • Participate in clinical audit.
  • Contribute to teaching and educational activities of the department.
