This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for an experienced Theatre Practitioner with at least 2 years of extensive working knowledge of a Day Surgery Theatre setting and an interest in Anaesthetics.
The role is a fixed term position covering Dorset County Hospital and Weymouth Community sites, with an expectation to work across the Theatre Complex including Main Theatres.
Day Surgery is part of the Surgical Division and includes two theatres, two recovery bays, and adjacent ward areas at Dorset County Hospital, as well as the Easton Eye Day Case Unit and a satellite unit at Weymouth Community Hospital. The department performs a wide range of surgeries including Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Gynaecology, Breast Surgery, Maxillo‑Facial Surgery, Urology and Special Dentistry.
Mainduties of the job
Support Day Surgery Teams and the Unit Manager, promote high standards of evidence‑based patient care, undertake HR duties, and line‑manage a team.
Applicants must demonstrate a clear understanding of Day Surgery concepts, HR responsibilities, and team leadership.
Job responsibilitiesThe role supports the Day Surgery Teams, the Unit Manager and promotes high standards of evidence‑based patient care.
Expected responsibilities include HR duties, line management of a team, and assistance in establishing clinical governance systems.
Person Specification Education, Qualifications- Registered Nurse/ODP
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Teaching qualification
- Proficient day surgery practice
- Effective working relationships with colleagues, patients, and visitors
- Effective time management
- Understanding of clinical governance and system establishment
- A special area of interest
- Leadership skills
- Knowledge of clinical audit
- Critical appraisal skills
- Significant post‑registration experience at Band 5 in Day Surgery, including nurse‑led discharge
- Experience of change and expansion of services to support Day Surgery development and theatre efficiency projects
- Understanding of theatre utilisation and best practice tariff targets
- Understanding of professional Nursing/ODP issues
This role is eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route and sponsorship will be offered subject to UKVI eligibility criteria.
