Actuarial Systems Consultant

Location:

Hybrid, Dorking 2 days per week, 1 further day spent in Dorking, Basingstoke or London

Unum UK are looking for an Actuarial Systems Consultant to help shape the future of our actuarial systems capabilities.

This is an exciting opportunity for a technically skilled and analytically minded individual to work at the intersection of actuarial science, data and technology.

You will play a key role in supporting external reporting, driving automation and enhancing the tools and processes that underpin the function.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain SQL code and actuarial systems used for external reporting, pricing, reserving, and capital calculations across Solvency II, US GAAP, and UK GAAP.
  • Collaborate with external partners to deliver accurate, timely data and respond to technical queries.
  • Support data validation and preparation to ensure consistency and integrity in actuarial analyses.
  • Drive automation and process improvement initiatives, leveraging tools like RAFM, Unify, and emerging technologies such as AI.
  • Participate in system upgrades, migrations, and the implementation of new actuarial software.
  • Ensure model accuracy through rigorous testing, documentation, and control procedures.
What you will bring:
  • Proficiency in SQL and Excel, with experience in actuarial modelling systems.
  • Willingness to learn new tools such as RAFM, Unify, Emblem, R, Python, or Power Query.
  • A degree in a numerical or analytical subject and/or experience as a current or former actuarial student.
  • Strong analytical and logical thinking skills, with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to a range of stakeholders.
  • A proactive, curious mindset with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement.
