As Area Ranger in the Surrey Hills, you’ll work across several National Trust sites. This role mainly focuses on the Surrey Hills East, and you’ll become the expert and advocate for Holmwood Common, working closely with the community and other rangers of the Surrey East Team. Occasional working on bank holidays and weekends as duty ranger is required for this role, to make sure we cover our sites during those times.
Whatit's like
The Surrey Hills is a large countryside property group with some of the most iconic and loved landscapes in the Southeast of England. It’s a diverse landscape with rolling hills, narrow valleys, grasslands and heathlands, connected by rivers such as the Mole, the Wey and the Tilling borne.
The Surrey Hills have been shaped by centuries of human activity and people living in and working in those landscapes. Our property includes important tourist attractions such as Leith Hill Tower, Box Hill, Reigate Fort, The Devils Punchbowl and Frensham ponds, but we also care for hidden gems such as Holmwood, Outwood and Limpsfield Common.
What you'll be doingAs the Area Ranger, you’ll manage a small team of rangers working across several different National Trust sites. As you develop a flexible and effective programme of work, you’ll be guided both by business needs and by the Trust’s strategy for restoring nature and enabling everyone to enjoy the countryside.
Your role is crucial in meeting the Trust’s high standards of presentation and property maintenance. You’ll build strong relationships with colleagues, contractors, tenants and neighbouring land managers. You’ll introduce a variety of people to the importance of nature conservation work through events, guided walks and community engagement.
