Simulation Practitioner (7‑Month Fixed‑Term Contract or Secondment)

The Education and Training Department within University Hospitals Dorset is continuing to develop and weare looking for two experienced educator to join our innovative and dynamic simulation team as a Simulation Practitioner.

1x 7 month Fixed Term Contract or Secondment opportunity.

Overview

As a Simulation Practitioner you will work as part of an established and experienced simulation team including simulation practitioners, technicians and fellows. The objective of this role is to plan, deliver, and support others to deliver high‑quality simulation‑based education (SBE) and transformative simulation (TfS). SBE has a focus on the learning and development of individuals, and this is commonly driven by curriculum requirements such as foundation doctors or student nurse programmes.

TfS is using simulation to create a change or improvement, and this will mostly be around the transformation work within the Trust.

The Education and Training Department is a large team providing clinical and non‑clinical education across all three sites of University Hospitals Dorset. The role will be predominately based at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital site; however, cross‑site working will be expected. Facilities include state‑of‑the‑art Simulation Suites, high‑fidelity patient simulation manikins and computer technology, and a Simulation Ward incorporating audio‑visual technology enabling live streaming to other locations.

We also operate lecture theatres, large clinical skills training rooms, seminar rooms and a dynamic conference room. All our facilities are linked through Microsoft Teams and deliver blended learning opportunities to our users. Training is enhanced using a variety of mannikins, anatomical task trainers and mixed‑reality headsets.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, deliver, and support high‑quality simulation‑based education (SBE) and transformative simulation (TfS).
  • Collaborate with the simulation team including practitioners, technicians and fellows.
  • Coordinate simulation sessions for foundation doctors and student nurse programmes.
  • Utilise the Simulation Suites, high‑fidelity manikins, mixed‑reality headsets, and the Simulation Ward to enable live streaming to other locations.
  • Integrate blended learning opportunities through Microsoft Teams and audio‑visual technology.
  • Support cross‑site working across the three University Hospitals Dorset sites.
Qualifications
  • Two experienced educators with a track record in simulation‑based education.
  • Experience with high‑fidelity simulation technology and blended learning approaches.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary simulation team.
  • Willingness to travel between University Hospitals Dorset sites (Royal Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Weymouth).
Logistics & Additional Information
  • For UHD employees, this fixed‑term post will be offered as a secondment in line with the Trust’s Secondment Policy; please speak with your line manager before applying.
  • Due to the length of the contract, sponsorship cannot be offered for external applicants.
  • If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Any other changes will be managed under Trust or national terms and conditions.
