General Trainer – Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service
As a General Trainer in our Operational Training department you will:
- Support Training Centre delivery of the training programme as required
- Develop training and assessment scenarios and packages for Incident Command and Operational Competence
- Support internal and external departments in training requirements e.g. Service Exercises, Prevention teams, Local Resilience Forum (LRF) and other agency training
- 4 GCSE passes – Grade A*- C / 9 – 4, including English and Mathematics or equivalent Level 2 qualification (including L2 functional skills), or higher – level relevant qualification
- Experience of working as an operational firefighter
- Experience of organising and delivering training sessions & preparing training resources

Other Information- You must have a full current driving licence and be able to fulfil the significant travel requirements of the role. Use of your own vehicle will be required; however, a Service vehicle may be available. Please note Service vehicles are manual transmission only.

- The role involves some evening and weekend working. This includes working one evening per week and nine weekend working days per year.
- You must be prepared to undertake physical elements of role, including manual handling, outdoor working and exposure to hot wears as a BA/FBT Instructor and maintain a fitness level the same as operational personnel which includes achieving pre-employment and annual fitness test level of 42.3 mlsO2/kg/min
- A Standard Disclosure & Barring Service Check (DBS) clearance will be undertaken on the successful individual prior to offer of employment.
- Any offer of employment will be subject to full pre-employment checks which include identity checks, right to work in the UK, full operational medical, hearing, eyesight and fitness testing, receipt of satisfactory references, verification of employment history and an explanation of any gaps in employment in the last 3 years.
- Upon appointment you will be required to adhere to the requirements of a Health Surveillance Programme and attend an Occupational health appointment for baseline readings.
- Trainer allowance, amount payable 10% of salary rising to 15% after 1 year (this is a pensionable allowance)
Salary: £34,434 - £37,280 per annum (rising by annual increments to £37,280) + Trainer Allowance – 10% of salary, rising to 15% after 1 year.
