Animal Care Assistant Apprentice

We're on the lookout for a passionate Animal Care Assistant Apprentice to join our dedicated team at the RSPCA Ashley Heath Animal Centre on an 18‑month fixed‑term contract. At Ashley Heath we care for animals that have been rescued from cruelty or neglect, rehabilitating and preparing them for a new life with caring and loving adopters. Our cattery can house more than 40 cats at a time, while our kennel team handles cruelty‑case dogs that may stay for extended periods.

Alongside cats and dogs, we look after other small domestic pets such as rabbits, guinea pigs, rodents, and birds.

• Provide daily care and support for cats in the cattery.
• Care for and rehabilitate cruelty‑case dogs, including walking, socialising and training.
• Attend to other small domestic pets (rabbits, guinea pigs, rodents, birds).
• Prepare animals for adoption and assist the team with related tasks.

• 35 hours per week, 20% dedicated to your qualification.
• 2‑week rolling roster, working every other weekend (study time cannot be on a weekend day).
• Hours from 8:30am to 4:30pm with a one‑hour unpaid lunch.
• Requirement to work bank holidays.
