Fleet Consulting Motor Engineer – Birmingham preferred or SoCo footprint
Summary: This role reports to the Fleet Plant Engineering Support Electrical and Controls (I&C) Manager and provides support to Southern Nuclear’s fleet of eight operating units for medium and low voltage AC and VFD motor support. The Engineer will oversee motor maintenance and life‑cycle management programs, including long‑range planning, performance monitoring, procedure development and specification input. Candidates with strong motor technical abilities and nuclear plant experience are preferred.
Responsibilities- Support the Southern Nuclear fleet (8 operating units) for medium and low voltage AC and VFD motor support.
- Governance and oversight of motor maintenance and life‑cycle management programs.
- Long‑range planning, performance monitoring, procedure development, and specification development input.
- Procure, conduct vendor factory acceptance testing, performance testing and site acceptance tests.
- Resolve motor equipment issues, coordinate on‑site repairs, support maintenance and engineering during outages and special projects.
- Develop and maintain motor equipment reliability programs for the SNC fleet.
- Communicate motor technical issues and drive resolution through management levels at plant sites and corporate office.
- B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Controls, Industrial Engineering or equivalent; ABET accredited preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of motor experience; strong motor design, maintenance, refurbishment, repair, troubleshooting, and monitoring expertise.
- Experience in nuclear power generation highly desired.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license plus BS highly desired; active leadership in IEEE, NEMA, ASME, EPRI LEMUG, EASA desired.
- Advanced degree in motor design, selection, application, or failure prevention highly desired.
- Proficiency in analysis of motor speed/torque curves, amperage, voltage, and test data for pump/fan compatibility.
- Expertise in motor performance evaluation and vendor performance critique.
- Strong knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements for nuclear power facilities.
- Data‑driven decision maker, capable of making sound engineering judgments.
- Effective communicator across diverse teams and management levels.
- Leadership and teamwork skills, respectful of diverse viewpoints.
- Strong written and oral reporting and presentation capabilities.
- Maintain unescorted site access and NRC Fitness for Duty.
- Work alternate shifts and extended hours during maintenance outages.
- Qualify for Emergency ERO Duty support role as agreed by SNC management.
