PRN (pro re nata)
A PRN therapist is part of an on‑call pool of therapists who work on a per‑diem basis. PRN is short for the Latin term "pro re nata," which means "as needed." As a PRN therapist, a therapy organization will send patient assignments for you to follow the POC when they need an extra therapist to treat their patient load.
Key aspects of a PRN therapist role include:
- Flexible schedule – freedom to choose when you work.
- Variety of settings – ALF and residential home settings.
- Higher rates – higher pay rates compensate for the absence of benefits.
- No long‑term contracts – assignments are not tied to a specific facility.
- Weekend and holiday shifts – premium pay rates.
