• Administrative Functions
  • Direct the day‑to‑day nursing activities; participate in developing, maintaining and updating written nursing policies, procedures, manuals, objectives and philosophies; complete and maintain medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charts, etc.; admit, transfer and discharge residents; ensure nursing staff comply with written policies; implement a quality assurance program; review discharge plans; participate in government agency inspections; interpret policies for personnel and families; report to the Director of Nursing Services;
    
    handle new admissions; manage food inspections; review nursing notes; enforce restraints policy; ensure cleanliness; collaborate with physicians; administer medications; handle narcotic records; order supplies; maintain medication availability.
• Charting and Documentation Functions
  • Perform routine charting and recordkeeping; document accidents and incidents; encourage physicians to review treatment plans; record telephone orders; maintain accurate dietary orders; report discrepancies; file required forms for admissions, transfers and discharges.
• Personnel Functions
  • Assist in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, evaluating, disciplining, and terminating nursing staff; coordinate personnel actions; schedule work hours and manage vacation and holiday schedules; delegate authority; ensure staff licensure and compliance; review personnel complaints and grievances.
• Staff Development Functions
  • Develop work assignments; evaluate staffing requirements and performance; recommend disciplinary actions; conduct rounds and report findings; enforce policies; provide training and education; maintain confidentiality.
• Residents’ Rights Function
  • Maintain resident confidentiality and privacy; promote dignity and respect; ensure compliance with residents’ rights; monitor nursing service; report grievances.
• Care Plan and Assessment Functions
  • Assist in developing comprehensive care plans; encourage resident and family participation; ensure nurses use care plans; review notes and monitor compliance.
• Planning and Inventory Functions
  • Recommend equipment and supplies; enforce inventory control; conduct inspections; develop procedures for safe use of equipment.
• Safety and Sanitation Functions
  • Ensure safety, fire and disaster, infection control and departmental policies are followed; develop hazard reporting procedures; maintain cleanliness of nursing areas.
• All other duties as assigned.

• Ability to read and write in English; communicate with residents, families and personnel; remain calm under stress; assist in lifting and/or transferring residents weighing between 100 to 250 pounds.
