Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

To supervise the day‑to‑day nursing activities of the facility in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards governing the facility, and as may be directed by the Director or Assistant Director of Nursing Services, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.

Key Responsibilities Administrative Functions
  • Direct day‑to‑day nursing activities and participate in developing, maintaining, and updating written nursing policies and procedures.
  • Admit, transfer, discharge residents, and ensure proper documentation in accordance with policy.
  • Participate in quality assurance programs, surveys, inspections, and report recommendations to the Director.
  • Coordinate staff schedules, staffing levels, and report personnel needs.
Charting and Documentation Functions
  • Complete and maintain accurate medical charts, medication cards, incident reports, and discharge forms.
  • Verify medication orders, monitor narcotic record accuracy, and report discrepancies.
  • Ensure timely charting of physician orders, diet changes, and agency requirements.
Personnel Functions
  • Recruit, interview, hire, counsel, evaluate, and discipline nursing personnel.
  • Co‑ordinate staff work schedules and ensure all personnel possess valid licenses.
  • Address personnel complaints, grievances, and uphold policy and applicable laws.
Staff Development Functions
  • Develop work assignments, review staffing and performance evaluations.
  • Provide regular feedback, conduct training and orientation programs.
  • Ensure personnel remain competent and current on licensing requirements.
Resident Care and Rights Functions
  • Maintain resident confidentiality and privacy, treating residents with dignity and respect.
  • Monitor and document resident rights, ensuring needs are met and concerns reported.
  • Assist residents and families in care plan development and review.
Planning and Inventory Functions
  • Recommend equipment and supplies, maintain cost‑effective inventory controls.
  • Inspect medication and supply levels and develop safe equipment use procedures.
Safety and Sanitation Functions
  • Ensure compliance with safety, infection‑control, and facility regulations.
  • Report hazardous conditions and maintain cleanliness of all nursing areas.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Strong written and verbal communication in English.
  • Ability to read and interpret policies, procedures, and medication orders.
  • Capacity to assist in lifting or transferring residents weighing 100‑250 lb.
  • Maintain calmness under stress and react appropriately to emergencies.
