Transportation Security Officer – Transportation Security Administration (TSA)

TSA is seeking a dedicated Transportation Security Officer to provide security and protection of air travelers, airports, and aircraft. In this role you will operate screening equipment, conduct searches, control terminal entry and exit points, and maintain a courteous and professional presence while handling high‑profile events and potential security threats.

• Operate various screening equipment and technology to identify dangerous objects in baggage, cargo and on passengers, and prevent those objects from being transported onto aircraft.
• Perform searches and screening, including physical interaction with passengers (e.g., pat‑downs, searches of property), conduct bag searches, lift and carry bags, bins, and property weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Control terminal entry and exit points.
• Interact with the public, give directions and respond to inquiries.
• Maintain focus and awareness while working in a high‑stress environment which includes noise, alarms, machinery and crowds.
• Apply risk‑based security screening protocols and make effective decisions in crisis and routine situations.
• Implement and maintain knowledge of all applicable Standard Operating Procedures, remain adaptable to new information or unexpected obstacles.

• U.S. citizenship or U.S. national.
• Minimum age 18 at the time of application.
• Selective Service registration required for male applicants born after 12/31/59.
• Pass a structured interview, drug screening, medical evaluation, and background investigation.
• Subject to random post‑employment drug and/or alcohol testing.
• Available to work various shifts and overtime as needed.
• Proficient in English (reading, writing, speaking).
• Mandatory travel may be required for training and occasional duties.
• Experience:
  
  At least one year of full‑time work experience in security industry, aviation screening, or as an X‑ray technician.
• OR education:
  High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or TASC equivalency.

• Ability to lift and manipulate baggage and containers weighing approximately 50 lbs.
• Maintain physical agility to squat and bend; walk up to 3 miles during a shift and stand for prolonged periods up to 4 hours.

For the Dothan, AL region the salary range is $40,332 to $56,282 (or $19.33 to $26.97 per hour) with a locality pay of 17.06%.
