Certified Catholic School Teacher

Base pay range

$43,000.00/hr - $53,000.00/hr

Primary Function

Under the direction of the school principal, the teacher supports the Diocese of Tucson in the mission to evangelize, catechize and educate youth in a Catholic School environment. The teacher shall serve as a minister of the Gospel, upholding Catholic teaching academically and behaviorally in the workplace and in personal life.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Recognize and support the unique Catholic Mission of the School by speaking, acting, and instructing in ways consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Demonstrate Gospel values by being an active member of a faith community and a model of the teaching of Jesus through attitude and example.
  • Help build the School’s faith community by participating in and helping plan school religious and service activities.
  • Lead and participate in daily classroom prayer.
  • Plan lessons that implement the school’s academic and Catholic religious curriculum, according to adopted objectives.
  • Demonstrate competence in teaching by mastering the academic and religious curriculum, communicating effectively with students, and organizing classroom learning to maximize student time and motivation.
  • Teach in an online learning environment when required, using platforms such as Google Classroom.
  • Use effective evaluation methods tied to curriculum objectives to assess and report student progress.
  • Establish a consistent disciplinary approach that promotes self‑direction, high standards for behavior, and effective behavior management.
  • Maintain a functional and pleasant learning environment.
  • Cooperate with school and diocesan administration and collaborate with all staff to promote positive student–parent relationships; attend scheduled faculty trainings and meetings promptly.
  • Enforce school policies and regulations professionally at all times.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information and exhibit sound judgment in dress and conduct; follow school dress code.
  • Adhere to principals’ directives and perform additional duties as assigned.
Physical/Mental Requirements

Teacher must demonstrate coordination, manual dexterity, normal mental and visual capacities, and the ability to lift as required in a normal office environment.

Required Activities

Walking, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, talking, handling, hearing, carrying, and keyboarding.

Basic Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of and strong commitment to fostering lay leadership in the Roman Catholic Church; must be a practicing baptized Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church.
  • Excellent written, oral, public speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; self‑starter, organized, and a team player.
  • Availability for evening and weekend work as necessary; reliable transportation.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with computer technology, including word processing, Excel, and related tools; maintain confidentiality.
  • Flexibility in assessing needs and adapting strategies in a ministerial environment.
  • Complete a criminal history and background check.
  • Professional bearing and clean, neat personal appearance.
Education and Experience
  • Completed bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Certified by the State of Arizona as a Teacher with renewal per state law.
  • Level I Diocesan Ministry Certification with renewal every three years.
