Job Summary
Serve as the first point of contact for patrons entering the library, ensuring a welcoming and positive environment conducive to study and learning. Supervise circulation activities and provide basic reference assistance, collection maintenance, and oversight of student workers.
Responsibilities
- Maintain circulation desk functions: charging/discharging materials, processing reserves, overseeing patron accounts, receiving fees, and ensuring policy adherence.
- Supervise student workers: identify candidates, recommend hiring, create schedules, train, approve time sheets, and evaluate performance.
- Oversee collection maintenance: supervise shelving and shelf‑reading, assist with collection retrieval and inventory.
- Administrative and clerical support: open and close the library, secure Classroom 127, answer phones, maintain lists and schedules, compile statistics, submit circulation reports.
- Other duties: perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisor.
- Customer service and marketing: provide excellent service, assist patrons with materials and reference questions, monitor public areas, create displays, assist with events.
Required Qualifications
- Educational Requirements: Associate's Degree or two years of experience as a library assistant or equivalent.

Strong computer skills. - Required Experience: Customer Service experience.

Commensurate with experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with automated library systems.
- Experience working in an academic library.
- Supervisory experience.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively, search and retrieve information, compile statistics, train and supervise student workers, exhibit a positive attitude. Knowledge of library procedures, automated library systems, and standard library equipment. Proficient in computer software (word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation, graphic programs). Excellent customer service skills.
