Dragline Operator

Job Duties

• Operation of the dragline and leading the crew.
• Follow the dragline dig plans and operating procedures. Resolve issues without immediate supervision.
• Thorough understanding of dragline operations with problem‑solving abilities that enhance planning, prioritizing, and completion of tasks.
• Effectively communicate with dragline operators, oilers, grounds persons, supervisors, leads, engineers, managers, and other equipment operators.
• Coordinate dragline activities to ensure maximum utilization and efficiency.
• Perform duties of dragline oiler, dragline grounds person and assist in training others.
• Walk the boom and work throughout the dragline without being susceptible to heights or motion sickness.
• Lead the team constructively to maximize available resources and achieve operational objectives.
• Assist supervisors in developing employees; coach employees to improve effectiveness and motivate team members.

• Take a personal and active approach to health and safety; comply with company safety standards, MSHA regulations and environmental requirements.
• Self‑motivated leader who serves as a resource to others in the work area.
• Interact with supervisors, leads, engineering and managers to ensure work complements overall objectives.
• Communicate effectively through concise verbal and written communication that enhances planning, prioritizing, managing costs, and task completion.
• Consistently demonstrate positive behavior that supports organizational goals.
• Commit to safety, environment, and continuous improvement; seek ways to improve operational performance.
• Highly flexible and able to adjust to job demands while producing consistent high‑quality work.

• Thorough knowledge of mine operations with problem‑solving abilities that enhance daily activity planning and prioritization.
• Mechanical background beneficial; knowledge of the machine and ability to do rigging work.
• Work effectively as a crew member in a consistent manner.

• Dragline operation.
• Knowledge of federal and state mining laws.
• Ability to satisfactorily complete company training programs.
• Preferred:
  High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.

• Dragline operator experience.
• Previous dozer qualification covering all functions necessary for dragline support.
• Experience in maintenance and care of heavy machinery.
• Dragline oiler experience.
• Dragline grounds person experience.

The employee is required to talk or listen, sit, rotate, bend, lift up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 60 pounds rarely, push with up to 100 pounds rarely, walk, stand and bend; occasionally kneel, climb stairs or ladder, shovel, crawl, or crouch. Specific vision demands include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception with focus adjustment.

Works on rotating shifts with variable hours, outdoors in all weather conditions, and in the cab of equipment.
