Position: PRN MRI TECHNOLOGIST

Job Summary

Must be flexible with work hours, dependable, accountable, and cooperative. Assists with providing safe, age‑appropriate care to patients by performing all exams as per department procedures. Performs a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization of equipment for diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. Sets up equipment to provide imaging services and positions patients for procedures.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions
  • Demonstrate ability to adjust technique for optimal study quality and image integrity.
  • Report malfunctioning equipment to supervisor or service provider for timely correction.
  • Clean, disinfect, and maintain equipment per infection control policy and department cleaning schedule.
  • Operate patient monitoring system.
  • Obtain complete clinical history, gather examination data, and assess contraindicating conditions.
  • Administer contrast media following established procedures, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
  • Ensure proper patient identification for all studies.
  • Review images for clinically acceptable results and release patients.
  • Respond to emergency situations and assist other technologists when needed.
  • Observe patient condition, evaluate situations requiring physician intervention, and ensure no deterioration.
  • Validate patient identity prior to performing a procedure according to hospital policy.
  • Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and comfort throughout exam/procedure.
  • Demonstrate competence in determining and applying appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies, and techniques based on patient age.
  • Organize schedule, time, and priorities to accomplish required activities within designated time frames.
  • Follow physicians’ instructions during procedures and exams.
  • Understand, document, and perform pre‑procedure verification and “Time Out” processes.
  • Pre‑prepare trays, catheters, and sterile technique for procedures; participate in biopsies when applicable.
  • Demonstrate proficiency on the Dynacad and prepare/administer contrast with appropriate dosing and safety checks.
  • Use safety devices to protect patients’ hearing during exams.
  • Understand anatomical positioning, correct labeling, and infant immobilizers.
  • Apply cross‑sectional anatomy knowledge during imaging.
  • Employ critical thinking skills and seek clarification on ambiguous orders.
  • Explain purpose and nature of exams to patients, using AIDET to minimize anxiety.
  • Address patients’ questions, concerns, or contraindications, notifying physicians when necessary.
  • Participate in orientation and training of departmental employees.
  • Complete mandatory departmental and hospital‑wide education promptly.
  • Produce acceptable images and adhere to established exam protocols.
  • Ensure equipment is fully operational before each use; check calibration and operating deficiencies.
  • Transmit studies to PACS immediately after completion; print CDs as required.
  • Maintain MRI suite safety, locking it down at all times.
  • Restock linens and supplies; keep MRI department clean and orderly.
  • Transport and position patients; assist with procedure table movements.
  • Charge patients on service day.
  • Use supportive and immobilization devices; provide assistance to others as requested.
  • Perform clerical and support duties to ensure continuity and quality of services.
  • Maintain individual productivity comparable to other co‑workers.
  • Operate all workstations associated with the MRI scanner and retrieve studies to the PACS system.
  • Maintain Joint Commission and regulatory agency standards.
  • Execute any additional duties as assigned.
  • Take call when necessary.
Required

Minimum Education
  • Successful completion of an accredited MRI program or ARRT‑R
Required Minimum Licenses & Certifications
  • Certified MRI Technologist or ARRT Magnetic Resonance Imaging
