Job SummaryThe RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care givers who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized high‑quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders and supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model. The framework for practice is steered by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model and evidence‑based practice and research.
RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the Wellstar Values. It is expected that all RN Clinical Nurses are licensed, knowledgeable, and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and implement the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association. As a member of the patient services team, the individual upholds the voice of the patient, system policies, and procedures while supporting service‑excellence goals.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions
- Performs the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes, planning, implementation, evaluation) using evidence‑based practice, analytical/critical thinking and ensuring individualized care; coordinates care through effective partnerships recognizing that caring is central to optimal patient outcomes.
- Provides relationship‑based, patient‑centered care consistent with population‑specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease) and adapts service delivery to reflect an understanding of cultural diversity.
- Partners with patients and significant others using appropriate methods (e.g., bedside shift report, interdisciplinary rounds, just‑in‑time teaching) to keep them updated and make patient goals the focus of the plan of care.
- Practices using current clinical practice standards.
- Coordinates the delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care that promotes a professional care delivery model, including diverse, inclusive interdisciplinary communication methods, timely documentation, and a respectful clinical environment.
- Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration by practicing in a fiscally responsible manner and promoting recruitment and retention among all healthcare team members.
- Participates in performance improvement initiatives, research utilization, and shared governance at all system levels.
- Completes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments, mandatory education, and population‑specific education.
- Serves as a preceptor and/or mentor for other professional nurses and staff or students of all disciplines to build a current and future qualified workforce; models professional nursing practice and promotes a healthy work environment.
- Promotes evidence‑based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement; participates in value analysis as part of decision‑making for patient‑care products.
- Upholds all system policies, procedures, and clinical competencies, including legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements such as Joint Commission patient‑safety goals.
- Participates in data collection, poses clinical questions, consults experts, and uses resources to address practice questions.
- Proactively plans patient care across the continuum while providing direct patient care.
- Develops protocols and procedures in collaboration with care managers and other team members to achieve best‑practice outcomes (e.g., decreased readmission rates, avoidable days, adverse events).
- Supports efficient and effective use of human and material resources.
Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all Well Star Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
RequiredMinimum Education
Associate’s Nursing or Diploma in Nursing;
Bachelor’s Nursing preferred.
- RN (Single State) or RN‑COMPACT (Multi‑state Compact)
- BLS, ARC‑BLS, or BLS‑I
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
Required Minimum ExperienceExperience with direct patient care (preferred).
Required Minimum SkillsAbility to read, write, and speak English; basic computer skills; strong interpersonal, collaborative, and customer‑service skills; ability to function in a fast‑paced environment and respond to emergencies decisively and respectfully; excellent time‑management; evidence‑based nursing practice and critical thinking.
