Job Summary: The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care givers who ensure that patients, families and significant others receive individualized high quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders and supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model. The framework for practice is steered by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model and evidence‑based practice and research.
RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the Wellstar Values. It is expected that all RN Clinical Nurses are licensed, knowledgeable and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and implement the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association. As a member of the patient services team, it is expected that the individual upholds the voice of the patient, system policies and procedures while supporting service excellence goals.
Responsibilities And Essential Functions
- Perform the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation) in clinical care using evidence‑based practice, analytical/critical thinking, and ensuring individualized care; coordinate care through effective partnerships.
- Provide relationship‑based patient‑centered care consistent with population characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease) and adapt service delivery to reflect cultural diversity.
- Partner with patients and significant others using appropriate methods (bedside shift report, interdisciplinary rounds, just‑in‑time and planned patient teaching) and keep them updated, focusing on patient goals.
- Practice current clinical practice standards.
- Coordinate delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care that promotes the professional care delivery model, including diverse interdisciplinary communication and timely documentation.
- Demonstrate teamwork and collaboration in a fiscally responsible manner, promoting recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.
- Participate in performance improvement, research, and shared governance at all system levels.
- Complete initial and ongoing professional competency assessments, mandatory education, and population‑specific education.
- Serve as a preceptor/mentor for nurses and other disciplines, ensuring a qualified workforce and a healthy work environment.
- Promote evidence‑based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement.
- Participate in value‑analysis activities in decision‑making for patient care products.
- Uphold all health‑care system policies, procedures, and competencies, including legal, regulatory, accreditation requirements, TJC Patient Safety Goals, and Wellstar safety absolutes.
- Participate in data collection, pose relevant clinical questions, consult experts, and use evidence to address practice questions.
- Proactively plan patient care across the continuum during direct patient care.
- Develop protocols and procedures with care managers and team members to achieve best practice outcomes (e.g., reduce re‑admission, avoidable days, adverse events).
- Support efficient use of human and material resources.
Minimum Education
Associate’s Degree in nursing or Graduate of accredited/approved school of nursing (Required)
Bachelor’s Degree Nursing PreferredRequired
