Health and Social Care Teacher - Secondary Alternative Provision (Maternity Cover)
Location: East London
Type: 1-Year Maternity Cover (Full-Time)
Working Hours: 08:30 am - 16:00 pm
Salary: Paid to scale (dependent on experience)
Are you a dedicated and compassionate Health and Social Care Teacher with a passion for supporting secondary-aged students in an alternative provision setting? We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled teacher to deliver Health and Social Care across Key Stages 3 and 4 as part of a 1-year maternity cover.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact on young people who benefit from a more personalised, nurturing, and flexible approach to education. You will play a key role in helping students develop vocational knowledge, life skills, and pathways into further education, training, or employment.
About the SchoolThis specialist secondary alternative provision supports students with a range of additional needs, including SEMH, SEND, and those requiring re-engagement with education. Key ResponsibilitiesPlan and Deliver Engaging Lessons: Design and deliver differentiated Health and Social Care lessons tailored to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Support Academic and Personal Development: Build students' subject knowledge, confidence, and employability skills within health and social care contexts.
Individualised Support: Contribute to personalised learning plans, working closely with teaching assistants and support staff.
Prepare Students for the Future: Support pathways into further education, vocational qualifications, apprenticeships, or employment within the health and care sector.
Monitor and Assess Progress: Track student progress, providing constructive feedback and adapting teaching strategies to maximise engagement and achievement.
Create a Safe and Inclusive Learning Environment: Foster positive behaviour, respect, and emotional safety in the classroom.
Collaborate Effectively: Work closely with colleagues, pastoral teams, and external professionals to provide holistic support.
Qualifications and Skills RequiredQualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
Experience teaching Health and Social Care at secondary level (KS3/KS4), including BTEC or vocational qualifications (desirable).
Experience working within alternative provision, SEND, or SEMH settings (desirable).
Strong understanding of how to adapt curriculum content to meet individual needs.
Ability to build positive relationships and re-engage students who may have faced barriers to learning.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Patience, resilience, and a flexible approach to teaching.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
