Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant – SEMH School
Location: Tower Hamlets, East London
Salary: £90–£100 per day (PAYE, weekly pay)
Contract: Full-time, Long-term
Start Date: ASAP

Some pupils need more than support. They need someone who won’t walk away.

We’re working with a specialist SEMH school in Tower Hamlets looking for a calm, resilient SEN Teaching Assistant who understands that behaviour is communication.

This setting supports young people with social, emotional and mental health needs. Many have faced challenges outside the classroom that most adults would struggle with. What they need now is consistency. Structure. Trust.

That’s where you come in.

What your role will involve
  • Providing 1:1 and small group support
  • Helping pupils regulate emotions and manage behaviour positively
  • Building strong, respectful relationships
  • Supporting learning in a structured, therapeutic environment
  • Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals

In this kind of school, progress isn’t always measured in grades. Sometimes it’s a student staying in class for the full lesson. Sometimes it’s choosing words over walking out. Those moments matter.

About the school
  • Specialist SEMH provision with experienced leadership
  • Clear behaviour systems and strong safeguarding culture
  • Ongoing training and CPD opportunities
  • A supportive team who genuinely back one another

You’ll never be left to handle tough moments alone. There’s proper structure and real support here.

We’re looking for someone who:
  • Has experience in SEMH, PRU, youth work, mentoring, or care settings
  • Stays calm under pressure
  • Understands trauma-informed practice
  • Can set clear boundaries with empathy
  • Wants to make a meaningful, lasting difference

This role isn’t easy. But it’s powerful. And the impact is real.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
Protocol Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with the DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
