A fantastic Secondary School in the Borough of Tower Hamlets is on the hunt for a Geography Graduate Teaching Assistant to join their already strong Humanities department from September 2026. This is a brilliant opportunity for a graduate looking to gain hands‑on classroom experience before progressing onto teacher training.

The school is looking for an individual who has graduated from university with a Geography or Humanities related degree and is looking to secure a fantastic role within a school with a strong reputation for training, development and supporting aspiring teachers. Following a successful full academic year, this role offers the chance to progress onto Salaried Teacher Training from September 2027.

  • Secondary Teaching Assistant / Academic Mentor
  • Supporting students across KS3 – KS5
  • Working within the Humanities department, with a focus on Geography
  • Leading small intervention groups, including GCSE and A Level support
  • Assisting in the classroom with general Teaching Assistant duties
  • Supporting pupils with SEN in the classroom
  • Helping students build confidence, independence and strong academic habits
  • Supporting students with exam preparation, revision and subject knowledge
  • Full‑time position based in Tower Hamlets, starting September 2026
  • Opportunity for Salaried Teacher Training from September 2027
Person specification
  • Graduate in Geography or a closely related Humanities subject
  • Good A Levels & GCSEs across the board
  • Confident in Geography subject knowledge and academic ability
  • Strong understanding of the GCSE Geography curriculum desirable
  • Ability to lead and support pupil progress within your specialist subject area
  • Strong communication skills to support class teachers and pupils effectively
  • Passionate about education and raising attainment
  • Proactive, resilient and able to engage young people
  • Able to work as part of a wider Humanities department and school team
