SEND Teaching Assistant – Special School – Tower Hamlets £100-£120 per day | Full-Time | Long-Term | Tower Hamlets
Axcis Education is recruiting an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist school in Tower Hamlets, supporting pupils with Autism, complex needs and significant communication difficulties. This is a hands-on role for someone who is comfortable working with pupils who may be non-verbal, sensory-seeking or require a highly structured approach to learning. The school is looking for someone patient, proactive and confident supporting children and young people who benefit from clear routines, practical learning and consistent adult support.
The role would suit someone with experience in a special school, ARP, SEN unit or high-needs SEND setting, although strong mainstream SEND experience will also be considered.
- Supporting pupils with Autism, complex needs and communication difficulties
- Working with pupils who may be non-verbal or minimally verbal
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support
- Helping pupils access sensory, practical and highly differentiated learning
- Supporting communication through visual strategies and structured routines
- Helping pupils manage transitions, sensory regulation and emotional needs
- Working closely with teachers and other support staff
- Encouraging independence, engagement and positive interaction
- Supporting pupils against individual EHCP and learning targets
- Have previous experience as a SEND TA, LSA or support worker
- Have supported pupils with Autism or complex needs
- Are confident working with non-verbal pupils
- Understand the importance of sensory support and structured routines
- Are calm, patient and able to build relationships at the pupil's pace
- Can work effectively as part of a wider classroom team
- Are comfortable supporting pupils with a higher level of need
- Can commit to a full-time, long-term role
The role is based within a specialist school in Tower Hamlets, with strong transport links across East London. This would be a strong opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a setting where progress is measured not only academically, but also through communication, regulation, independence and engagement.
